How To Replace a Sidewalk

Sidewalks can worsen over time and will require maintenance as time passes on. Common signs that show you need to replace your paths are fully broken slabs, and deep cracks.

How To Replace A Sidewalk

1) Remove Damaged Concrete Fragment(s)

Break apart the concrete slab that is damaged, with a jackhammer, or hammer and a chisel and toss the pieces into a dumpster or garbage can.

2) Prepare area for new concrete

To prep your area, you need to ensure the area you’re working on is leveled, and then compacted with a compact machine. Two by four wood must be installed on each side of the sidewalk. Stakes must also be installed every 3 to 4 feet for the sidewalk to be straight.

3)  Pouring and Finishing the Sidewalk

3,000 PSI concrete is poured from a truck to the area that needs a new sidewalk. It would be best if you used a concrete puller to fill or fix any empty or low spaces, and a bull float tool should be used afterward to an almost smooth finish.  You also will need to use a finishing trowel to get a smooth finish. Stand on the side of the sidewalk, and use a broom to drag across the pavement to give it a non-slippery finish.
